Custom Keyboards!

A custom-made keyboard

How does the case affect the keyboard?

Cases can not only affect the sound of a keyboard, albeit less than switches or keycaps, but they can change the look and functionality massively. This is because the shape of the case you pick out will determine the layout of your keyboard! There exist many different layouts for keyboards but the most common are the 100%, 80%/Tenkeyless, 65%, and a 60%. each of these are shown down below.

You might ask, "How can they even use these smaller ones?" The answer is layers! When holding down a key the fuctions of each key are changed to a different "layer", similar to how when you hold "shift" the "1" key turns to an "!". This way the smaller Keyboards have the same functionality as the larger ones. The case material may vary a lot, many are made of aluminum but due to faulty case design can cause a "ping" noise when typing which can become irritating to some. Other times it may cause a "hollow" sound that can be fixed by filling the case with foam beneath the PCH of the keyboard.
